The blog as a means of communicating technical information.

Many moons ago, about three years ago I heard about a thing called a blog. I was told that it was short for “web log” and was to be found on the blogosphere. I had no idea what a blog was so I went and had a look.

nobody cares

I instantly saw the potential it had for the communication of technical and clinical material that could be easily spread to a wide audience over the www. I already had a website and on that I had put many downloads but as I don’t talk “website speak” it was difficult for me to make additions to it on a regular basis. My first website guy took his own life, and then my next website guy is great and very helpful and does lots of things for me but I don’t want to be hassling him too much to be constantly making more download additions. He has already done numerous things for me.

I saw in a blog that I could make many additions on a daily basis. So there now was the way to make regular additions and comments about technical and clinical information relating to my field of psychology, psychotherapy, human nature and so forth.

Say you love me
Do you love me or do you love my blog?

But I did not want to just do it in the usual scientific journal style. That is too dry and boring, so I wanted to jazz it up a bit and make it more “www” style. So that’s what I have been experimenting with and if you look at my earliest blogs at:

www.ausweblogs.com/users/ynot1/

you can see that they are quite different to my recent ones on this blog. Particularly with the use of pictures and in more recent times with the use of video. Now video has great potential indeed for blog transmission of clinical material!!. This seems to be happening. On my blogspirit blog alone in the last few months there has been an average of 1200 pages viewed per day (in 300 visits). When first I started with blogspirit in March 2006 there was an average of 84 pages viewed per day. That is a 1,400% increase in a year which perhaps confirms my initial thought of the potential of blogs for the transmission of clinical and technical information. Even though I am not too sure what a ‘page ‘ is, it does sound like an awful lot of viewing. Is a ‘page’ one screen on the computer? Anyone know?

Pages in a book

Well I have finally gotten around to what is the final part in this saga. In the writing of blog postings I have found that often there will be an idea that evolves over a period of time and thus over a number of separate postings. Sometimes this is happening with two or three concurrent ideas of mine. It has always been my goal to then collate each idea together over the two or more postings and put it together as a download on my website.

Well this has now happened. I have placed the first 12 on my website:

http://www.ynot1.com.au/

Just click on blog postings and they will all come up.

Download all you want.

So to all you pessimists out there, some things in life are actually free.

All I ask is that if you use this information then you reference it to me - Tony White - at either my website address or blog address.

Have fun

Hi, Tony. I've seen the other blog posts and yes, I've noticed that it's different over here. I guess blogs evolve with their authors. It's nice when we can make changes and still keep our important blog pals, isn't it?

Dear Tony,
I'm not much of a blogger (or blogging fan)personally, but I admire those who make the most and best of them. I'm glad you did.

best wishes,
Maryam.

Thanks for your comments Kenoath and your reminder of the relational. If I transform then that means you have to transform - I think it is.

Yes there is a lot more blog posts to be added to the website soon.

Hi Tony,

Yeh I'm chuffed you got into blogging and enjoy your jazzy style and presentation, being both good fun, and intellectual. I'm looking forward to continuing to watch your site grow and change Tony, rather like the newly planted young tree growing in my back garden.

Bye for now,

Nick.

This relational approach makes it worse.
If I'm reading you correctly, everything is again dependent on some one else, this time the therapist... the therapist is the god again... is that it?

Posted by: mariamusic | Saturday, 07 April 2007

We are all dependant/reliant on someone at some point in time M. Simply speaking and in blog terms, the way a blogger may adjust or change writing styles has as much to do with their interactions with readers too. Its a "too" (as well as) way street. In therapy settings the therapist knows he is a therapist and the client isn't/doesn't know.

If you are wearing a green glasses, you see the world green ken. when you change the color of your glasses to yellow, you will see the world yellow. none of them means the world has changed from green to yellow, nonetheless they mean the world is yellow or green.

Bono has a penchant for rose coloured glasses M. I think his transformations have altered the lives of many. I was transformed not long ago, when I received a bottle of Fat Bastard wine from USA. I still have the bottle you know!

Hi, Tony!

I have posted my very first pics from the new camera!!
I'm having fun with it. I could have used something like this a long time ago. I'm glad I finally have something new and good.

Maybe change IS as good as a holiday.

Transforming? Possibly.

May your easter bunny be bountiful.

I had a look at them refugee and it seems you are reaching for the stars.

And

"When was the last time you did something for the first time?"

Tony

Posted by: Graffiti | Monday, 09 April 2007

Well, Tony... over the weekend. I did that for the first time over the weekend :-)

hi. Thought I'd help you learn^^
here is all you need to know about a Webpage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webpage

or, to sum it up a bit; A webpage is a document on the World Wide Web. Every Web page is identified by a unique URL (Uniform Resource Locator). (Yay for Google)

Posted by: Cru | Monday, 09 April 2007

Thank you Cru for the information.
I am slowly but surely learning more and more about such things like web pages and EARLs!

Its getting colder here so it must be getting warmer where you are.

Hi, Tony. I put up a new photo. I explained how I made it, too. Are you going to make another movie soon? I have some kind of movie thing on my software, but I don't know how to work it yet.

Posted by: Refugee | Tuesday, 10 April 2007

I will do another movie soon Ref.
So if you have movie software, is your camera a still picture camera or a movie camera?
GRaffiti

Posted by: Tony | Tuesday, 10 April 2007

Well, it is mostly for still pictures, but there is this movie thingy on it. I don't know how to work that yet, either.

I'm glad you are going to make another movie. I really loved the one by the skate park. That was so cool!!

Posted by: Refugee | Tuesday, 10 April 2007

Yes I will get to the short movie soon. I am at this point doing a lot of the compiling of my previous blogs to put on my website.

It is good to look at presenting clinical information on my website in a a new form of presentation, that is not the usual "professional" style.

I like your presentation over there a lot, Tony. You have a special way of putting things that is down to earth and interesting to read. I first found your blog when I was looking for information about dealing with the effects of trauma. Getting information was nice. I didn't know I would get a bonus like a nice and creative movie-making blog pal.

Thanks for coming with me when I had to abandon ship, Tony. What happened at my place was very upsetting and it came at a bad time, but it really takes the sting out to have nice friends who understand.
